Another notable inclusion, Sheryl Crow and her hit “you’re my favorite mistake.“

Apropos of nothing, I tought of you when I found these stats of most lost songs based on radio airplay https://radioinsight.com/blogs/187494/the-100-most-lost-songs-of-the-1980s/

The 'nearly revery track' bit may be a hangup but the first album to come to mind every time anyone mentions 'diss' is JOHN LENNON/PLASTC ONO BAND, which has the added benefit of being one of the 20 or so best albums made in the 70's.

His 'How Do You Sleep?' - aimed at McCartney - is perhaps the ultimate diss track. At least until 'Not Like Us' came along.

My favorite one-hit wonder album for 7-8 years was Golden Earring's MOONTAN ("Radar Love") from 1973.....then they went and spoiled it in the 80's by having a second (banger!) hit with "Twilight Zone"

I know twilight zone. Very cool song

I love Radar Love and Twilight Zone, both! If they only got two hits I think they were good ones. Radar Love is the first rock song I remember paying attention to, as I was about 6 years old when it was a hit. I thought I was so cool because I could actually understand the words.

Another not-quite diss album: Last year's Lotus by Little Simz is a neo-soul inflected UK hip hop album with multiple tracks devoted to dissing her longtime producer Inflo who stole a couple million dollars from her. The album then pivots towards songs about finding peace, letting go of grudges, and reconciliation, because Simz is classy and doesn't want to be defined by resentment (even if she seems unlikely to ever work with him again). One of my favorite albums from last year.

If you like one hit wonders you should check out Todd in the Shadows' youtube series One Hit Wonderland, which walks through the history of a lot of these acts. I really like it!

(It seems Substack may have eaten my comment, I hope I haven't posted twice...)

Fun idea. My fave one-hit-wonders albums are Men Without Hats' Rhythm of Youth and Chumbawamba's Tubthumper (tho some of their later albums with NO hits are even better).

Good diss track was Eminem unloading on Limp Bizket in the D12 song “Girls”. He also had some fun with Moby (bald headed fag blow me) on Without Me.

You don't think John Lennon's How Do You Sleep is one of the ten best diss tracks? Come on, now!

We aren’t ranking all diss albums. We just listened to 7 random albums that fit the theme

I’m kind of surprised you didn’t mention Taylor Swift, an obvious candidate, someone who historically has sung about several of her boyfriends over the years and not in a particularly flattering way
