I love this post! Also check out some of the episodes of Marc Maron's WTF podcast. He is able to get inside people's heads. Check out his interviews with McCartney, Mavis Staples, Springsteen, and others. Strong Songs is also a good podcast - I especially liked the episodes on Stop Making Sense, Born to Run, September, and more. Finally, the Wonder of Stevie is really good.
I would love to hear the further suggestions of the rest of you music lovers.
Maron is the master. I sorta didn’t include interviews because there are just so many JT’s impossible to sift through. I’ll check out some of the strong songs and Stevie episodes
Of course! There was also another switched on pop episode that I remembered loving and couldn’t find. I think it was about TikTok broadly. But I remember a nice segment about weird distorted sounds. Started to feel like I might have made it up lol
This is great! I've been obsessed with '500 Songs' for a few years now, been through the entire series twice. I look forward to checking out some of the others on your list as I wait, and wait, for TMC's next season of "Cocaine & Rhinestones."
Great list. Big fan of history of rock in 500 songs and song exploder. Also recommend Strong Songs and the Dissect season on Radiohead’s In Rainbows. Look forward to trying some more of these.
There are two that you missed...The Ongoing History of New Music, the OG of podcasts (Alan Cross started doing this show in Toronto, which was syndicated across Canada back in the early 90s and has over 1000 shows) and his new podcast, Uncharted: Crime and Mayhem in the Music Industry. Both are excellent and very informative.

I’m familiar with the former, not the latter. There were a few ongoing history episodes that I considered but I couldn’t pick one that I felt stood above the rest.

Excited to add these to my podcast queue!

the one problem with 500 songs is that there's such a long wait between episodes!
Yes but they’re always worth waiting for!

Never been a big podcast guy, but some of these sound fantastic!
If nothing else listen to the one ranked number one
Listened to the Reply All podcast yesterday and it was amazing!!
It’s so wild
We have the same top 2! Two of the best podcast episodes ever
When I set out to do this the only thing I was sure of was the top 2
